REO Distribution Sets Up Foreign Trade Zone

April 7, 2008

WAYNESBORO-Reo Distribution Services is pleased to announce that designs and plans are nearly completed for major renovations to the old GE facility in Waynesboro where a Federal Trade Zone will be the catalyst for the development of a full service international trade center. This will better serve local clients that are importing products for their existing manufacturing operations and as a basis for international business development offering domestic assembly, light manufacturing and distribution for new and already identified foreign customers.

Foreign-Trade Zones (FTZ) are secure areas under U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) supervision that are generally considered outside CBP territory upon activation. Located in or near CBP ports of entry, they are the United States’ version of what are known internationally as free-trade zones. Foreign and domestic merchandise may be moved into zones for operations, not otherwise prohibited by law, including storage, exhibition, assembly, manufacturing, and processing. All zone activity is subject to public interest review. Foreign-trade zone sites are subject to the laws and regulations of the United States as well as those of the states and communities in which they are located.

Reo Distribution is also working with the City of Waynesboro in establishing a “Friendly City” relationship with Wanzhou, China in the Chongqing Province of China. This relationship, the first of several planned, will promote joint economic development with the sharing of cultural and educational differences between Wanzhou and Waynesboro. A trade mission to Wanzhou is planned for the end of April to include representatives from Reo Distribution and Waynesboro.
