Northern Virginia Law Firm To Move Expanded Division To Staunton

September 5, 2006
When asked why he was interested in relocating a portion of his firm to Staunton, Rajiv S. Khanna said, “We have recently had difficulty with employee retention. That combined with the increasing costs of office space in Arlington inspired us to look for a smaller, more rural community within a two-hour drive from Arlington.” He added.

Staunton - An Arlington law firm will locate a new divisional office in Staunton, an early success in the city’s new white-collar job recruitment campaign. The Law Offices of Rajiv S. Khanna, P.C. has announced that it will relocate and expand one of its divisions to Staunton.

The Small Business Development Center at George Mason University provided a network for the northern Virginia law firm which eventually connected it to Staunton. The firm received an overwhelming response to job advertisements placed in local papers, and worked with the Staunton Department of Economic Development to conduct local interviews. The law firm will open the Staunton office by October 1, 2006, with six employees in leased space, but plans to expand that staff and move to owned property in the future.

“With today’s technological connectivity, businesses are no longer forced to maintain offices in high-cost metropolitan areas,” said Amanda Huffman, Staunton’s Economic Development Specialist. “It just makes economic sense for some companies to relocate to smaller cities – as long as those smaller cities offer the same connectivity and cultural amenities to which business people are accustomed.”

For more than 14 years, Rajiv S. Khanna has operated a law firm devoted exclusively to U.S. immigration law with an emphasis on business and professional immigration and related federal litigation. The firm has grown to more than 40 employees with clients from 80 different countries around the globe.

When asked why he was interested in relocating a portion of his firm to Staunton Khanna said, “We have recently had difficulty with employee retention. That combined with the increasing costs of office space in Arlington inspired us to look for a smaller, more rural community within a two-hour drive from Arlington.” He added, “We have received excellent customer service from city staff and we think Staunton is going to work out very well for us, in fact, three of our employees are looking forward to moving away from Arlington.” Anna Baker, a supervisor for one division of the law firm who will be relocating to Staunton, said, “I already love Staunton. It’s absolutely beautiful there and I’m so impressed by the city’s charm and culture.”

“My monthly visit to Staunton will be a working vacation because of the peaceful surroundings,” Khanna said.
