SI International Awarded $138 Million Business Process Outsourcing Contract with U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
RESTON, VA – September 7, 2006 – SI International, Inc. (Nasdaq: SINT), an information technology and network solutions (IT) company, today announced that the Company has been awarded the Pre-Grant Publication Classification Services contract by the Department of Commerce’s United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). As the sole winner of the new prime contract, SI International will assist the USPTO with pre-grant publication classification services to support USPTO’s core mission of examining, granting, and disseminating patents and trademarks. The business process outsourcing contract has a one-year base period with four one-year option periods and five one-year award term years. The contract is valued at $138 million over the ten-year period, if all options and award terms are exercised.
SI International will provide expert documentation classification services, software and electronic performance support technologies in building an integrated system to determine appropriate patent classifications for pre-grant publications. SI International will recruit and train a 150 person staff over the next several months. Once SI International’s facilities are operational, it is expected that SI International will assist the USPTO in classifying approximately 38,000 patent applications per month. The new facility will be located in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
